Price Keeps The Faith With Tarzino

Wednesday, 9th March 2016

Meanwhile, trainer Mick Price has confirmed that Tarzino (Tavistock-Zarzino, by Zabeel) will head to Sydney for the Rosehill Guineas and the Australian Derby following his narrow loss to Palentino in last Saturday's Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington. Last season's Victoria Derby winner can consider himself slightly unlucky not to have doubled his Gr1 tally after storming home from last and being forced wide around the turn to fail by only a nose in the $750,000 3YO feature. "It wasn't our intention to be that far back. I thought he would bounce and put himself right up there," lamented Price. "He's got a really good extended long run that makes him a good horse." He added: "He's going to stay here [at Caulfield] for a little while...he'll work Saturday morning - the reverse way on the inside grass - and then we'll work out what to do with him but he will be off to Rosehill for the Guineas and then to Randwick for the Derby." The Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) will be run on 19 March, while the Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) is scheduled for Royal Randwick on 2 April.
