Sydney On Addictive Habit's Radar
Gr1 winner Addictive Habit (Colombia-Chasing the Habit, by Sky Chase) is being aimed at the autumn carnival in Sydney, reports NZ Racing Desk. The connections of the 6YO have made the second payment for the $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on 2 April and the gelding also holds an entry for the showpiece event of The Championships - the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) a week later. "Sometimes they get rain there and as we all now Addictive Habit is a very good miler," trainer Lee Somervell said. "It would obviously depend on whether he could get a start in the Doncaster, but if it looked like he would then that would be the ultimate plan." He added: "The other big plus is the weight – he's got 52kg and that would be wonderful for him." Plan B with Addictive Habit is to target the Gr1 Easter Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie ahead of a return visit to Queensland where the son of Colombia was a Listed race winner during the winter carnival last year. Addictive Habit hasn't raced since he found the Trentham track too hard when unplaced in the Gr1 Thorndon Mile, but showed he had bounced back with an easy trial win at Rotorua on Tuesday. Bred by Hawke's Bay couple Graham and Isabel Roddick, Addictive Habit is out of a half-sister to champion Kiwi galloper Rough Habit.
