Bart Ready For Newmarket Test

Thursday, 10th March 2016

The Darren Weir stable are delighted with the condition of former West Australian galloper Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars-Sister Theresa, by At Talaq) who is set to have his first start for Victoria's champion trainer in Saturday's Gr1 Newmarket handicap (1200m) at Flemington. Formerly prepared by Vaughn Sigley, Black Heart Bart has won 10 of his 26 starts hitherto, including the Gr2 WATC Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) and Gr3 WATC Northerly Stakes (1400m). "Darren thought it would be best to keep him fresh for the Newmarket," Weir's racing manager Jeremy Rogers told the West Australian. "He's had a couple of jump-outs and he's gone well in them." She added: "He's in good order. Obviously it's going to be a strong field, but we're happy with him going into the race." By Victoria Derby winner Blackfriars, Black Heart Bart's dam Sister Theresa is a half-sister to New Zealand Oaks winner Savannah Success, the dam of Cox Plate winner and outstanding young stallion Savabeel. Black Heart Bart is currently a $17 chance with TAB for Saturday's $1.25 million sprint feature.
