Seaburge Wins Gr2 Sires' Produce Stakes

Monday, 14th March 2016

At Flemington in Melbourne, Australia's Champion 2YO Colt of 2007-2008 and Widden Stud sire Sebring (More Than Ready-Purespeed, by Flying Spur) added a Group success when 2YO colt Seaburge (Sebring-Polska, by Encosta de Lago) scored by 0.75-length for trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the $200,000 Gr2 Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs, over fellow colts Detective (Snitzel-Covertly, by Metal Storm) & Revolving Door (Sebring-Turnstiles, by Anabaa). This was the first stakes victory for the highly promising Seaburge who advanced his record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 3 starts for $142,050 earnings. Seaburge was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock for $220,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Widden Stud. "From the moment he arrived in the stable he looked a bit special," co-trainer David Hayes told Racing.com. "He was bought because we thought he looked like Criterion...he has a similar action to Criterion, and let's hope he ends up half as good." He added: "The plan is to go the Sires [Gr1 Sires' Produce] in Sydney."
