Runway Star Wins Listed Matrice Stakes
At Morphettville in South Australia, Widden Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago-Explosive, by Fappiano) added a black-type success when 5YO mare Runway Star (Northern Meteor-Intuit, by Commands) scored by 0.8-length for trainer Peter Moody to make it back-to-back victories in the $100,000 Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+, over 6YO geldings Brimarvi prince (Lion Heart-John's Legacy, by Dolphin Street) & Hank's Nephew (Danbird-Chapent, by Peintre Celebre). Runway Star, who was a $300,000 purchase by Belmont Bloodstock at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, took her record to 5 wins (including the 2015 Listed Matrice Stakes) and 2 placings from 15 starts for $290,620 earnings. Owned by a syndicate that includes Vinery Stud and Werrett Bloodstock, Runway Star's second dam is the brilliant Gr1-winning sprinter Wrap Around (Bletchingly) - herself a half-sister to multiple Group winner and Gr1 Blue Diamond & Gr1 Thousand Guineas runner-up Rose Of Danehill (Danehill) - from dual Gr3 winner Beach Gown.
