Freedman Hoping For Malaguerra Galaxy Start
Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman expects Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) to prove highly competitive in Saturday's Gr1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill provided the progressive sprinter can secure a start in the race. The 4YO resumed with a smart win in the Listed VRC Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) at Flemington on 5 March, boosting his overall record to an impressive 8 wins from 15 starts for over $300,000 prize money. Malaguerra has been allotted the minimum weight of 51 kilograms in the $700,000 sprint feature, but is not assured of a start with 27 horses nominated for the 14-horse capacity race. "I'm very happy with him and he's definitely improved," Freedman told Racing.com yesterday. "I wouldn't normally run a horse straight out of Listed company in a Group One, but I think the way this horse is heading, if he can get a run in the race with only 51 kilograms he's going to run a great race." He added: "I galloped him on Saturday the Sydney way and he went great. He will do a bit more work tomorrow [Wednesday] before he heads up."
