Raghu Plans Shelved

Wednesday, 16th March 2016

Tony Pike has abandoned plans of running New Zealand Derby placegetter Raghu (Showcasing-Fantasy World, by Zabeel) in Saturday's Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) due to a poor blood picture, reports theinformant.co.nz. The New Zealand colt earned a shot at the $600,000 feature after a domestic campaign that has netted placings in the Gr2 Waikato Guineas, Gr2 Avondale Guineas, and an excellent third behind stable-mate Rangipo in the Derby. Pike confirmed a Queensland winter carnival campaign is now an option. "We ran a blood yesterday [Monday] and it wasn't quite right so we've called Sydney off," said Pike. "It was too much of a risk to send him over, everything has to be spot-on." He added: "I'll be talking to his owner to decide whether we look at Queensland, but he can have a break for the meantime, he's earned it."
