Star Filly Continues Comeback From Laminitis
Outstanding US mare Lady Eli (Divine Park-Sacre Coeur, by Saint Ballado) has continued her gradual return to the track with a workout at Palm Meadows Training Center on Monday, reports Blood Horse. Undefeated in her only six starts, including the Gr1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes & Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, the Chad Brown-trained mare suffered a potentially career-ending bout of laminitis in July last year. On Monday, the 4YO worked four furlongs in 49 seconds, her first half-mile breeze after a pair of three-furlong works. Jay Hanley, who owns Lady Eli with Sol Kumin under their Sheep Pond Partners banner, commented: "I'm sure Chad isn't asking her for anything yet, but the :49 flat was among the top two or three works at the distance. This being her first half-mile work, Chad must be feeling more confident with her...I have 100% faith in him to do what's right by her." Given the nature of her condition, there is no timetable for Lady Eli's return to the races.
