Fell Swoop Seeking Gr1 Redemption
Canberra trainer Matthew Dale is hoping that its a matter of second time lucky for talented sprinter Fell Swoop in Saturday's Gr1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill. The 4YO arguably should already be a Gr1 winner after resuming with a most unlucky second in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate on 27 February when blocked for a run at a vital stage of the race. Dale says that while it was obviously frustrating not to secure a maiden Gr1 success with the gelding, he is hopeful of making amends in Saturday's $700,000 sprint feature. "He was obviously strung up there for a number of strides on straightening and got out late and charged to the line," Dale told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "I was very proud of the horse and he's done well since so I'm looking forward to Saturday." He added: "He came through the run really well. I think out of his three trips away to Melbourne now that is the best that he has come home and picked up, which is a really good sign. He has actually put on weight between runs...I am rapt with the way he is ticking over heading into Saturday." Dale said that he expects Fell Swoop to prove highly competitive on the weekend, but acknowledged that with so many quality speedsters engaged the task would not be an easy one. "This year the Galaxy is likely to be as hard as ever in that it will be a full field and being two weeks before the TJ [Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes], a lot of horses have nominated this race as their natural lead up," he said. "I am confident in my horse but it is a very deep race." Click here to view the form for The Galaxy and all the races on Golden Slipper day.
