OBS 2YO Sale Day-1: $1.3M For Uncle Mo Colt
A son of Coolmore's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) topped the opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company March 2YOs In Training Sale on Tuesday when selling for US$1.3 million to Repole Stable and Coolmore's M.V. Magnier. Consigned as hip 245, the dark bay or brown colt out of stakes winner & Gr1 placegetter Setareh (Sky Classic) worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at last Thursday's Under Tack session. "We loved him," trainer Todd Pletcher, who accompanied Repole and representatives of Coolmore, told Blood Horse. "He breezed phenomenally, was a beautiful horse on the shank and showed himself well back at the barn." Meanwhile, a colt (hip 222) from the second crop of Lane's End Farm's Twirling Candy was knocked down to Al Shaqab Racing and WinStar Farm for US$850,000. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 last Thursday, is a half brother to stakes winner Highway Boss out of Sage Mist, by Henny Hughes. Other youngsters to sell well were a War Front colt who went for US$675,000, a Curlin colt for US$625,000, and a son of Bernadini for US$575,000. For the session, 160 horses grossed US$25,718,500 compared with 169 bringing a total of US$30,704,000 last year. The average was US$160,741, compared with US$181,680 in 2015, while the median price of US$115,000 was down on last year's figure of US$120,000.
