Baker Ready To Let Stars Loose

Friday, 18th March 2016

Top New Zealand trainer Murray Baker has provided an update on the prospects of stable stars Mongolian Khan and Turn Me Loose ahead of their respective Gr1 assignments at Rosehill tomorrow. Baker will saddle up Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan in the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m, while last-start Gr1 Futurity Stakes winner Turn Me Loose will contest the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m. "Mongolian Khan has improved greatly. We're very happy with him," Baker said from Sydney. "He trialled nicely last week. We just let him run around at Warwick Farm and he's not far off top fitness. He might need another run yet but I expect him to go a good race." Should the reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year perform satisfactorily on Saturday, Baker said he could back up in the Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill seven days later. Meanwhile, a start in the $3 million Doncaster Mile at Randwick on 2 April awaits Turn Me Loose, who must first confront the likes of star gallopers Winx, Press Statement, First Seal and Kermadec in a vintage renewal of the $1 million George Ryder. "He's going well and we're very happy with the horse. I hadn't seen him for three weeks before I arrived in Sydney yesterday [Wednesday] and he looks terrific," Baker said. "But we're taking on a strong field - Winx, Press Statement, who's supposed to be the best three-year-old over here, Hucklebuck - and it doesn't end there. Providing he runs well, he'll be in the Doncaster."
