Ethereal Granddaughter Scores On Debut

Friday, 18th March 2016

Meanwhile, beautifully bred filly Quintessentially, a granddaughter of champion New Zealand mare Ethereal, looked to have inherited plenty of the family ability when making a winning debut at Te Aroha yesterday. Trained by Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie for Sir Peter Vela's Pencarrow Stud, Quintessentially raced right up to her winning trial form when charging home from a midfield position to score by a nose in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Stakes over 1600m. By High Chaparral, Quintessentially is out of the Gr1 New Zealand Derby placegetter Uberalles (Giant's Causeway), a daughter of 4-time Gr1 winner Ethereal. Trained by Sheila Laxon, Ethereal (Rhythm-Romanee Conti, by Sir Tristram) etched her name into racing folklore when she became just the 11th horse in history to claim the Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double in 2001.
