OBS 2YO Sale Day-2: $1.7M For Smart Strike Colt

Friday, 18th March 2016

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2016 March Sale of 2YOs in Training Sale concluded on Wednesday with a colt by Smart Strike emerging as the sale's top seller when knocked down to Lane's End Bloodstock for US$1.7 million. Consigned as Eddie Woods as agent, the bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :9 4/5 at Friday's Under Tack session, is out of graded stakes placed Glamorista (Unbridled's Song), a half sister to Gr1-winning millionaire Critical Eye. "Mr. (Will) Farish stood Smart Strike at Lane's End and we developed his best son Curlin, so it just makes sense for us to go back and try to find a replacement for Smart Strike," Lane's End's David Ingordo told Blood Horse. Eddie Woods commented: "This is one of the best Smart Strikes you're ever going to find. He's one of those top-end, big beautiful-looking horses. He's as good of a horse as I ever get." For the entire sale, 325 horses sold for a total of US$51,650,000 compared with 325 bringing a March record US$55,432,000 last year. The average price was US$158,923 compared with US$170,560 twelve months ago, while the median price was US$100,000 compared with US$105,000 last year.
