Tarzino Wins Gr1 Rosehill Guineas
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Cambridge Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Tavistock (Montjeu-Upstage, by Quest For Fame) celebrated an elite success when 3YO colt Tarzino (Tavistock-Zarzino, by Zabeel) scored a dominant 1.8-length win for trainer Mick Price and jockey Craig Newitt in the $600,000 Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) for 3YOs, over 3YO gelding Montaigne (Road to Rock-Stylish Bel, by Bel Esprit) & 3YO filly Jameka (Myboycharlie-Mine Game, by General Nediym). Tarzino - who was sporting the red and white silks of new part-owners Rosemont Stud for the first time - tightened his grip on favouritism for the Australian Derby in two weeks time with this brilliant staying performance and in the process took his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Victoria Derby) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 VRC Australian Guineas) from 9 starts for $1,517,050 earnings. "He is a really, really good staying colt," Price told Sky Racing. "I think he will improve from today and he is obviously the one to beat going into the AJC Derby. If he shows up in the right order on Derby day they won't beat him." Bred by Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud in New Zealand, Tarzino was originally purchased for NZ$45,000 2014 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale by Rick Connolly Bloodstock before subsequently reoffered at the 2104 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and purchased by Mick Price Racing for $60,000. Tarzino is out of the Zabeel mare Zarzino and descends from the same female line as three-time Gr1-winning stallion Sky Chase, sire of 1996 Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate winner Saintly.
