Schofield Fined $50,000

Tuesday, 22nd March 2016

Jockey Glyn Schofield has been fined $50,000 by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board for his involvement in the sale of Victorian racehorse Equita to Hong Kong, reports Racing.com. In early 2014, the Brent Stanley-trained Equita was sold as a then unraced horse to Hong Kong trainer Danny Shum for $290,000 with Schofield receiving a $20,000 commission as agent. Schofield told the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board that he had no knowledge of the rule that prohibits jockeys from trading racehorses without the written consent of the ruling body. He said had he known, he would not have helped facilitate the sale. "There is no suggestion he's done anything dishonest," RAD Board chairman Judge John Bowman said. "(But) the image of racing has suffered because of it." Equita currently races in Hong Kong as Dancing Flames and has 1 win from 6 starts.
