BMW Option For Montaigne

Wednesday, 23rd March 2016

Anthony Cummings was the last trainer to prepare a 3YO winner of the $1.5 million The BMW (2400m) and he's seriously thinking about trying to do it again, reports NZ Racing Desk. Successful in the 2013 edition of the Gr1 staying feature with Fiveandahalfstar, Cummings has nominated the highly promising Montaigne (Road to Rock-Stylish Bel, by Bel Esprit) for Saturday's renewal. The New Zealand-bred son of Road To Rock finished runner-up to Tarzino in the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas last weekend and Cummings has already booked Damien Oliver for the ride, should the gelding back up. "There's no Tarzino in the BMW," Cummings said. "The BMW is as good an option as the Derby, but running in it would not necessarily rule the Derby out."
