Free Eagle Dam To Galileo

Wednesday, 23rd March 2016

Polished Gem (Dansili), the dam of outstanding Irish galloper Free Eagle, is set for a return date with Galileo after she delivers a foal by Coolmore's multiple champion sire later this year, reports Racing Post. Moyglare Stud's Fiona Craig said: "Galileo isn't getting any younger and there's nothing out there who can replace him." She added: "You can make cases for lots of other horses but it's impossible to replace him. We always thought it would be impossible to replace Sadler's Wells and I think Galileo has exceeded him now. While we can, we'll use him." The Dermot Weld-trained Free Eagle (High Chaparral) was retired to stand at the Irish National Stud in December after finishing a disappointing last in the Gr1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin. The prodigiously talented Moyglare homebred won 3 of his 8 starts, including the Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. He is currently standing his first season at stud at a fee of €20,000.
