Petits Ready To Fire First-Up

Thursday, 24th March 2016

Trainer Ciaron Maher says brilliant filly Petits Filous (Street Boss-Excellent Lady, by Exceed and Excel) is ready for her return to the races in the Jack Elliott Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The multiple stakes-winning 3YO hasn't been seen since finishing a fading 10th behind Buffering in the Gr1 Moir Stakes in October, her first defeat in five career starts. "She has taken a little while to come to hand but I'm very happy with her. Her trials have been good and I can't wait actually," Maher told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. Petits Filous will carry top weight of 60kg on Saturday, but gun apprentice Michael Dee (a1.5) may be used to reduce the burden. "We may claim with her because she has 60 [kilograms] but she probably deserves it," Maher said. "It's a step back from the company she has been racing in, so while she will take a fair bit of improvement out of the run, her ability will carry her a long way." Maher said Petits Filous' long term target was the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on 7 May.
