Montaigne Sold To Hong Kong

Wednesday, 30th March 2016

Highly promising New Zealand-bred 3YO Montaigne (Road to Rock-Stylish Bel, by Bel Esprit) has been sold to Hong Kong interests, reports NZ Racing Desk. The deal, which is understood to be in excess of seven figures, was completed in the wake of the Road To Rock gelding's excellent performance on Saturday when he finished fourth behind Preferment in the Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill. "We've had interest from Hong Kong for the last couple of months and we agreed on a figure after his fourth in The BMW," stable spokesman Edward Cummings said. "You never like to see a horse of his ability leave the stable, but it's business and despite our desire to keep him at Randwick we're always mindful of getting a return for our owners." Montaigne, whose ownership group included a syndicate from New Plymouth, won two races before recording placings in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (behind Press Statement) and the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (Behind Tarzino) for trainer Anthony Cummings. He was purchased for $60,000 at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Highden Park.
