Waterhouse Spells Out English Credentials
Meanwhile, Gai Waterhouse is confident talented filly English (Encosta de Lago-Court, by Anabaa) can bounce back to her best in Saturday's Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. A brilliant first-up winner of the Gr2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on 5 March, English then ran 6th to Griante in the Gr1 Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill when getting too far out of her ground. "I can't see why she can't win this race," Waterhouse told Racing and Sports. "They came from the chute the other day [at Rosehill] which was very heavy and boggy. Maybe when she jumped and hit that heavy section of the track she might have just lost her action and that's why she got so far back." She added: "But I think on her home track she will be able to put herself into the race and run very well." English is currently third favourite for the $2.5 million sprint feature behind Exosphere ($2.70) and Chautauqua ($3.40).
