Nyquist Arrives For Florida Derby

Thursday, 31st March 2016

Undefeated champion US colt Nyquist (Uncle Mo-Seeking Gabrielle, by Forestry) arrived at Gulfstream Park on Tuesday ahead of his next start in Saturday's US$1 million Gr1 Florida Derby, reports Blood Horse. Nyquist has won all six of his starts hitherto, including three Gr1 victories in the Del Mar Futurity, Frontrunner Stakes and Breeders' Cup Juvenile. "He certainly didn't lose any energy," trainer Doug O'Neill said after the colt arrived from California. "It's an honor walking a champ like him. His energy looks great. It looks like we really got lucky with the weather. It was nice and cool on the van ride, so we're happy." Nyquist could face as many as 10 rivals in Saturday's nine-furlong feature, with Shadwell's fellow undefeated colt Mohaymen among his potential challengers. Nyquist and Mohaymen occupy the top two spots in betting for the Kentucky Derby at 7-1 and 4-1 respectively, however those odds will no doubt change following Saturday's race.
