Platinum Witness Return Imminent
Gr1-winner Platinum Witness (California Dane-Chartreuse, by St. Petersburg) is nearing a return to racing, reports theinformant.co.nz. The now 4YO won last year's Gr1 NZ 1000 Guineas and was runner-up in the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks which earned her the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year title. The daughter of California Dane has not been sighted since finishing fifth in the Gr2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile in November, after which she had surgery to remove a bone chip from a joint. Trainer Lisa Latta reported that Platinum Witness is progressing well and may resume at Te Aroha on Saturday week before embarking on an Australian campaign aimed at the Adelaide carnival in May. "She's on the way back and coming along nicely," Latta said. "There's an open 1400-metre race at Te Aroha on April 9 that we might think about going for as a starting point, then we'll take it from there." She added: "If we're happy with her, we might look at taking her across to Adelaide. There are a couple of good races over there that we could have a go at." Likely targets for Platinum Witness would include the Gr1 Robert Sangster Stakes for fillies and mares, and the Gr1 Goodwood Handicap.
