Tally Set To Awaken In Derby

Thursday, 31st March 2016

Meanwhile, trainer John O'Shea has described Godolphin colt Tally (Street Cry-Itemise, by Kris S) as the "sleeping giant" of this year's Australian Derby field. Tally is coming off a win in the Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes (1800m) at Moonee Valley where he defeated Gr1 Australian Guineas winner Palentino, and O'Shea is hoping for a similar upset result in Saturday's $2 million classic at Royal Randwick. Tally's biggest obstacle in his bid for a maiden Gr1 success is the Mick Price-trained favourite Tarzino who dominates the market at $2.00. "Tally is a bit of a sleeping giant. He's done his racing in Melbourne and hasn't been seen here in Sydney," O'Shea told Godolphin.com. "He was a bit backward last Spring so he didn't run in the Derby in Melbourne, but he's really matured nicely over the Summer and has come into his own now." Tally ($6.50) will joined by Godolphin stable-mate Etymology ($15) who was last seen finishing sixth to Tarzino in the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) two weeks ago.
