Alaskan Rose Confirmed For Oaks

Wednesday, 1st June 2016

Talented filly Alaskan Rose (Encosta de Lago-Saskia, by Redoute's Choice) will have one final shot at Gr1 glory before the conclusion of her 3YO season when she contests Saturday's Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm, reports AAP. Alaskan Rose has been unplaced in her two Gr1 starts to date, namely in the Thousand Guineas (10th) and Australian Oaks (11th). The daughter of stallion heavyweight Encosta de Lago rounded out her classic preparation with a 8th place finish (beaten 3.4 lengths) in the Gr2 The Roses (2000m) twelve days ago, a performance her trainer Mike Moroney believes gives her a real shout on Saturday. "She got a pretty ordinary run in transit," Moroney said. "She got run off the track at about the 700 metres when all the interference happened and was very wide on the turn. It was a pretty tough run but to her credit she's bounced through it really well." He added: "She's eaten well and hasn't taken any harm from it, so we'll press ahead."
