Change Of Plans For Ghisoni

Wednesday, 1st June 2016

Godolphin have announced that highly talented filly Ghisoni (Lonhro-Portillo, by Red Ransom) will miss the Stradbroke Handicap and be redirected at the Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara. Godolphin's Australian managing director Henry Plumptre said the decision was in Ghisoni's long-term best interest. "We're not going to run in the Stradbroke this year. She is going to run in the Dane Ripper [Gr2] and then John [trainer John O'Shea] will make a decision as to whether she goes on to the Tatts Tiara," Plumptre told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "It's a really simple premise with her. We think she is a really exciting filly for next year for Sheikh Mohammed. So we're looking at races in the spring like the Myer, and then possibly the Coolmore [Classic] next year when she's more seasoned." He added: "The Stradbroke was tempting...but I know John [trainer John O'Shea] has a huge opinion of this filly. If she runs well again in the Dane Ripper then I'm sure we will look at the Tatts Tiara as a live option." Ghisoni improved her record to 4 wins from 6 starts when winning the Gr3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben last Saturday. The Gr2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) will be run on Stradbroke Handicap day (11 June), while the $500,000 Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) - formerly known as the Winter Stakes - will be run at Eagle Farm on 25 June.
