Mourinho Spring Return On Cards
Meanwhile, trainer Peter Gelagotis reports that stable star Mourinho (Oratorio-Benevolent, by Generous) is making a steady recovery from a tendon injury suffered earlier this year. Gelagotis initially feared the Gr1 Underwood Stakes winner had run his last race when he was forced to miss the Australian Cup in March, but he says the horse's rehabilitation is progressing well and he is on track to make a surprise return in the spring. Time permitting, Gelagotis said he would like to run the 8YO first-up in the weight-for-age Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 13 August. "Whether we have time to make it back so he can kick off in PB Lawrence like he did last campaign remains to be seen," Gelagotis told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "His next scan is due in the next seven to ten days and that will determine where we go from here." He added: "He has only had the one scan to date and that showed the tendon was well on its way to healing. If this latest scan shows he needs more time, we can just wait for the middle of the spring but the signs are promising."
