The Cleaner On The Mend

Wednesday, 1st June 2016

Moe trainer Peter Gelagotis has provided an update on the progress of Tasmanian cult hero The Cleaner who is on the comeback trail from injury. Now a rising 9YO, The Cleaner has not raced since pulling up lame when unplaced in the Listed Conquering Stakes (1400m) at Launceston in December. Gelagotis subsequently agreed to train the multiple Group winner and reigning Tasmanian Horse of the Year following a public dispute between the horse's owners and long-time trainer Mick Burles. "I think he is in pristine health. He has come through his rehab phase over the last three to four months and I think he is in a good place," Gelagotis told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "The horse is very well. There is still a lot of water that needs to go under the bridge before we get to where want to be, but I'm very happy with the horse. He has come back to full soundness. Everything is fully healed." Gelagotis said the plan was for The Cleaner to resume in the weight-for-age Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 13 August. "There's nothing else we can do for the horse at this stage," he said. "We just have to keep him happy and hope he remains sound. We're looking to kick him off on the 13th August in the PB Lawrence. He is well on target for that race."
