Volpe Veloce Wins Listed Castletown Stakes

Monday, 6th June 2016

At Wanganui in New Zealand, Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock-Forest Native, by Forest Wildcat ) sired his first stakes winner when exciting 2YO filly Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge-Bardego, by Barathea) strolled to an easy 2.75-length win for trainer Graham Richardson in the NZ$50,000 Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, over fellow 2YO filly Honey Rider (Pins-Southern Heights, by Align) & 2YO colt Technician (Coats Choice-O'Tryst, by O'Reilly). The aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", extended her unbeaten record to 2 wins from 2 starts for NZ$35,625 earnings. "I'm absolutely chuffed," trainer Graham Richardson told NZ Racing Desk. "I don't like getting carried and I'll let her do the talking – it was a big thrill. She's pretty smart." Purchased for NZ$240,000 by Richardson Racing at the 2015 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm, Volpe Veloce is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt from the Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview winning filly Bardego.
