Volkstok'n'barrell To Appreciate Drop In Class
After missing a scheduled start in last weekend's Gr2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) due to the abandoned Eagle Farm meeting, Volkstok'n'barrell (Tavistock-Volkster, by Volksraad) will step down in class and distance for a black-type race at the same venue this Saturday, reports theinformant.co.nz. Volkstok'n'barrell, who was last seen finishing a close-up fourth behind Our Ivanhowe in the Gr1 Doomben Cup on 21 May, will continue his winter carnival campaign in the Listed Wayne Wilson Stakes over 1600 metres. "We've got him down to race in the Wayne Wilson on Saturday, it's a set weights and penalties race over a mile," co-trainer Donna Logan said. "I don't think he'll have any trouble stepping down in distance. He's freshened up nicely since the Doomben Cup. We've got our fingers crossed." The Wayne Wilson represents a huge drop in class for the triple Gr1 winner, who hasn't contested a Listed event since landing the Karaka Mile (a restricted listed race) in January last year. Indeed, of his last 14 appearances, 13 of those have been at Gr1 level.
