Freedman Has Faith In Malaguerra
Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman is confident that progressive sprinter Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) is primed for a bold showing in Saturday's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm, reports Racing.com. The 4YO son of Magnus will bid to double his Gr1 tally in the $1.5 million winter showpiece after winning the BTC Cup (1350m) at his most recent outing. "I'm happy to go into the race a month between runs because that's how he likes his races spaced," said Freedman, who trains the gelding in partnership with his brother Anthony. "He's a very fit, lean sort of a horse so he doesn't need a lot of racing." Freedman added: "He worked very well (Tuesday) morning running 1000m in a pretty heavy course proper at the Gold Coast and by all reports he's pulled up well and I'm looking forward to Saturday." Malaguerra has drawn favourably in barrier 9 and will be ridden by champion jockey Hugh Bowman.
