Payne Released From Hospital

Thursday, 9th June 2016

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne was discharged from hospital yesterday following pancreatic surgery, reports AAP. Payne was operated on at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne following a race fall at Mildura on 23 May. The surgery means that Payne has had to postpone plans of a European sojourn where she was to ride at Royal Ascot, Ireland, Sweden and France in the coming months. The 30-year-old, who has been ordered by her doctors to rest for four weeks, says she will wait before making a decision regarding her future. "Obviously a lot of questions have been asked whether I'd ride again, it is something that I don't want to be pressured in to making comment on yet," Payne told Racing.com. "I've still got the fire in the belly, it is still there but I just want to get home and concentrate on getting better, make sure I take the time to relax and make the right decision when the time is right."
