Guineas Winners Set For Palace Showdown
The St James's Palace Stakes is shaping as one of the highlights of next week's Royal Ascot carnival with the winners of the English, Irish and French 2000 Guineas all set to clash in the 3YO Group One feature, reports Sky Sports. Hugo Palmer's Galileo Gold (Paco Boy), Kevin Prendergast's Awtaad (Cape Cross) and Aidan O'Brien's The Gurkha (Galileo) are all among the 15 six-day entries for the opening day's showpiece event. "All racing fans are looking forward to the opening day of Royal Ascot," said Harry Herbert, racing advisor to Galileo Gold owners Al Shaqab Racing. "If everything goes to the St James's Palace Stakes sound and well, a cracking race will be in store and it is what the race is all about. It will be a proper championship race." Herbert added: "He has the right to improve as he is only lightly raced but it will be a different race on better ground." The Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (1600m) is part of the British Champion Series and will be run at Royal Ascot on Tuesday, 14 June.
