Breeders' Cup Prize Money On The Rise
Following a dazzling weekend of racing at Belmont Park in New York, bloodhorse.com reports that the 2016 Breeders' Cup meeting will carry increased prize money – up US$2 million from US$26 million to US$28 million. The Breeders' Cup organisation announced that the respective purses of the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic and Gr1 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf which each rose a further US$1 million, the former to US$6 million and the latter to US$4 million. This translates to 2016's BC Classic winner taking home US$3.3 million for connections. These are the first increases since 2006. All overseas competitors will have their expenses underpinned via a US$40,000 stipend.
