The Grey Gatsby Doubtful Prince Of Wales's Starter
The Grey Gatsby is "very unlikely" to run in tonight's Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes (10 furlongs) at Royal Ascot according to connections, reports Racing Post. The dual Gr1 winner, who was a short head second to Free Eagle in last year's edition of the race, is likely to be ruled out on account of the soft ground given that he has struggled to produce his best on it in the past. "If the ground is soft he won't be running. We'll leave it as late as possible but it's not looking very promising. I'd never say never, but I would say he is a very unlikely runner," said Adam Ryan, son of trainer Kevin. "We have tried running him on soft ground in the past and he doesn't go a yard on it." He added: "We have to do the right thing by the horse. He has done everything for us and we have to repay that. He has already told us he doesn't like soft ground but if we ran him on it he would still try his heart out and give himself a hard race. In all probability his first race of the season will now be in the Eclipse." Despite racing consistently at the top level last season, the 5YO failed to reach the lofty heights of 2014 when he won the Gr1 French Derby and Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes.
