Lady Aurelia Wins Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes
US filly Lady Aurelia recorded one of the most breathtaking performances seen at Royal Ascot in recent years when annihilating her opposition in the Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes (5 furlongs) at the famous Berkshire track overnight. The 2YO daughter of deceased stallion Scat Daddy jumped smartly and never looked in danger of defeat when storming clear of her hapless rivals to score a stunning 7-length win in the juvenile fillies feature. It was the second winner for Scat Daddy in as many days following the win of Caravaggio in the Gr2 Coventry Stakes on day one of the royal meeting. Trainer Wesley Ward said that Lady Aurelia was likely to head to the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood or the Gr1 Prix Morny at Deauville. "She's an amazing filly and she'll have a big future," said Ward. "I've got the Molecomb or the Morny in my mind, but I'll talk to the owners and see if they agree." Winning jockey Frankie Detorri described Lady Aurelia as the best 2YO he had ever ridden. "It was breathtaking from the top," the champion rider said. "To win a sprint by seven lengths at Royal Ascot, I've never seen anything like that - especially from a two-year-old." Raced by a syndicate headed by Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables, Lady Aurelia took her record to 2 wins from 2 starts for £83,504 earnings.
