Usherette Wins Gr2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes

Thursday, 16th June 2016

On day two of the Royal Ascot carnival in England, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Group success when 4YO mare Usherette (Shamardal-Monday Show, by Maria's Mon) scored by 2.25-lengths for trainer Andre Fabre in the Gr2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (8 furlongs) for fillies & mares, over 5YO mare Furia Cruzada (Newfoundland-Nuestra Machi, by Hussonet) & Always Smile (Cape Cross-Eastern Joy, by Dubai Destination). Usherette improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr2 Dahlia Stakes) from 7 starts for £193,956 earnings. "I had a lot of confidence, but I was so worried about the ground. I was really impressed as she had a little penalty, as well," said trainer Andre Fabre. "She's a beautiful filly by Shamardal, who is my favourite sire." He added: "She's in the Falmouth (Gr1) and she has Group One entries in France as well. We'll try to look at winning a Group One now."
