Churchill Wins Listed Chesham Stakes
On day five of the Royal Ascot carnival in England, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a black-type success when 2YO Irish-bred colt Churchill (Galileo-Meow, by Storm Cat) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Listed Chesham Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs, over fellow 2YO colts Isomer (Cape Blanco-Nimue, by Speightstown) & Cunco (Frankel-Chrysanthemum, by Danehill Dancer). Owned by the Coolmore triumvirate of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier, Churchill improved his record to 1 wins and 1 placing from 2 starts for £46,586 earnings. Jockey Ryan Moore predicted a big future for Churchill. "He's a big powerful horse, a beautiful horse," Moore told Racing Post. "He travelled very smoothly to get there he was just very green. He's a high quality two-year-old." Moore added: "The whole time he was going there he was always just waiting, he's a bit of a baby but he's one to look forward to."
