Dartmouth Wins Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes
On day five of the Royal Ascot carnival in England, Darley's triple Gr1-winning world-class shuttle stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) added a Group success when 4YO UK-bred entire Dartmouth (Dubawi-Galatee, by Galileo) scored by a head for trainer Sir Michael Stoute in the Gr2 Hardwicke Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YO+, over fellow 4YO entire Highland Reel (Galileo-Hveger, by Danehill) & 4YO gelding Almodovar (Sea the Stars-Melodramatic, by Sadler's Wells). Dartmouth became The Queen's first Royal Ascot winner since Estimate's Gold Cup victory in 2013 and advanced his record to 7 wins (including the Gr3 Ormonde Stakes) and 1 placing from 12 starts for £292,994 earnings. "It's a great mark to reach [75 winners] but I hope it doesn't stop there! He's a lovely, quality horse and everybody in the yard is very fond of him," said Sir Michael Stoute, who equalled the record of the late Sir Henry Cecil with his 75th Royal Ascot winner. The Queen's bloodstock advisor, John Warren, told Racing Post: "It's been a long wait with a few little ups and downs but he's a very smart horse." He added: "Michael is such a master at training horses just to their peak and it means a lot to the Queen. The Queen got such a thrill watching him stick his neck out."
