Quiet Reflection Wins Gr1 Commonwealth Cup
On day four of the Royal Ascot carnival in England, Haunui Farm's Gr2-winning shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream-Arabesque, by Zafonic) sired his first Gr1 winner when 3YO UK-bred filly Quiet Reflection (Showcasing-My Delirium, by Haafhd) scored by 1-length for trainer Karl Burke in the second running of the £400,000 Gr1 Commonwealth Cup (6 furlongs) for 3YOs, over 3YO colts Kachy (Kyllachy-Dubai Bounty, by Dubai Destination) & Washington DC (Zoffany-How's She Cuttin', by Shinko Forest). Quiet Reflection boosted her impressive strike rate to 6 wins (including the Gr2 Sandy Lane Stakes) from 7 starts for £409,952 earnings. "She's very good," trainer Karl Burke told Racing Post. "It wasn't the plan to be stuck in the middle like that but she's got a great turn of foot and it's got her out of trouble again." Burke said Quiet Reflection was now likely to head to be rested ahead of a tilt at the Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup later in the year. "We're in the July Cup but I'd be a bit afraid of that if it came up fast ground with the undulations," Burke said. "Maybe the clever thing to do is give her a little break and aim her at the Sprint Cup at Haydock, then Champions Day back here." Showcasing returns to Haunui Farm in 2016 at a fee of $15,000 + GST. He is strictly limited to 125 mares with his book almost full.
