Monday, 20th June 2016

On day five of the Royal Ascot carnival in England, 4YO UK-bred entire Twilight Son (Kyllachy-Twilight Mistress, by Bin Ajwaad) landed the second top-flight victory of his career when scoring by a neck for trainer Henry Candy in the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 7YO Irish-bred gelding Gold-Fun (Le Vie Dei Colori-Goodwood March, by Foxhound) &  5YO Irish-bred gelding Signs Of Blessing (Invincible Spirit-Sun Bittern, by Seeking the Gold). Twilight Son improved his impressive record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup) and 1 placing (the Gr1 British Champions Sprint Stakes) from 8 starts for £725,151 earnings. Trainer Henry Candy, celebrating his first Royal Ascot winner since 1979, commented: "I never come here thinking I'm going to have a winner. We've been close a few times and it's marvellous to get the job done finally," he said. "He (Twilight Son) is a strong character...At one stage I was thinking he was going to be third, but he really dug deep and the jockey on top dug deep."
