Azkadellia Confirmed For Tiara

Wednesday, 22nd June 2016

Trainer Ciaron Maher is quietly confident that smart mare Azkadellia (Shinko King-Raving, by Centaine) can return to her best form in Saturday's Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm. A winner of the Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in April, the 4YO New Zealand-bred mare then ventured north to Brisbane and ran a slashing second to Music Magnate in the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) before finishing a disappointing 10th behind Under The Louvre in the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) eleven days ago. "She will run. She worked with a stable-mate this morning [Tuesday] on the course proper. She was real enthusiastic and her action looked in good order and I was happy with how she pulled up," Maher told Melbourne's Radio Sport National (RSN) yesterday. "Her fitness is quite good so I've basically just kept her nice and fresh. She's been down to the beach a few times. This morning she just worked over 1000 [metres] and strode out the last furlong in a tick under 24 seconds." Maher added: "I think she should bounce back to form based on what she's shown me. Back to mares grade on that big open track will allow her to get home...provided she bounces back she has certainly shown me she's right to go."
