Jameka On Traditional Cups Path
Trainer Ciaron Maher has provided an update on the progress of star filly Jameka (Myboycharlie-Mine Game, by General Nediym) who is being aimed at the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in the spring. The 3YO daughter of Vinery stallion Myboycharlie showed her class when winning last year's VRC Oaks before returning in the autumn to record successive Gr1 placings in the Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby. She then rounded out her autumn campaign with a creditable 4th (beaten 1.2 lengths) behind Kiwi filly Sofia Rosa in the Australian Oaks on 9 April. "She's back in work and just ticking over and doing a bit of pace work at the moment," Maher told Melbourne's Radio Sport National (RSN) yesterday. "She seems in great order. She spelled really well and her action is good...she will probably make her way towards the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups." He added: "She will probably kick off over 1400 metres with her fourth run in the Caulfield Cup and then into the Melbourne Cup."
