US Army Ranger To Miss Irish Derby
US Army Ranger has been rule out of Saturday's Gr1 Irish Derby at The Curragh after an unsatisfactory scope yesterday morning, reports Racing Post. Trainer Aidan O'Brien said of the Epsom Derby runner-up: "US Army Ranger's scope this morning wasn't 100 per cent and unfortunately he won't be running in the Irish Derby. It's a terrible pity as we were all looking forward to running him." Coolmore's retained rider Ryan Moore will now partner US Army Ranger's stable-mate Idaho who has been promoted to joint favouritism with Epsom Derby winner Harzand at 11-8. Idaho, third in the English Derby at Epsom, is a full-brother to the high class Highland Reel. By champion sire Galileo, the pair are out of the Gr1-placed Australian mare Hveger (Danehill), a full-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Elvstroem and a half-sister to fellow multiple Gr1 scorer Haradasun from Australian Oaks heroine Circles Of Gold. This is also the family of sub-fertile but brilliant young sire Starspangledbanner and Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
