Lees Favours Danish In Tiara

Friday, 24th June 2016

Kris Lees has two chances going into tomorrow's Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm with Danish Twist and Onemorezeta set to contest the final Gr1 race of the season. Danish Twist, a half-sister to three-time Gr1 winner Happy Trails, will attempt to emulate her older sibling by winning at the highest level after stringing four wins in a row, including the Gr3 Dark Jewel Classic at Scone & Listed June Stakes in Sydney. Meanwhile, Onemorezeta has indicated a win is not far away after running second to Danish Twist in the Dark Jewel prior to her encouraging last-start fourth in the Gr2 Dane Ripper Stakes. Despite suggesting that little separates the 4YO stable-mates, Lees says that Danish Twist is undoubtedly his best chance in the race. "Both mares are going into the race in good form," Lees told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "Obviously Danish Twist having won her last four would be the pick of them. I'm just mindful that she's been up a long time but all indications are that she's in a similar vein going into this race." Lees nominated the Ciaron Maher-trained Azkadellia as the hardest to beat in the race. "She's the class mare," Lees said. "Coming back to mares company, you've got to respect her immensely. I thought she's the horse to beat." He added: "Outside of her, it looks a typical mares race with a number of chances of which we've probably got one."
