Top WA Mare Heading East

Friday, 24th June 2016

Gr1-winning mare Magnifisio has been transferred to the Ascot stable of trainer Simon Miller who will aim her at the spring carnival in Melbourne, reports the West Australian. The top sprinter will be joined by West Australia's champion 2YO Whispering Brook in an assault on the early spring features down south. Owners Alan and Birgitt MacAlister heeded the advice of former trainer Vaughn Sigley who said the time was right to let Magnifisio make her Eastern states debut. “We spoke to Vaughn and he said we should be doing it,” Alan MacAlister said. “Simon had another horse set to accompany Whispering Brook to Melbourne but the plans fell through. We wanted her to have a buddy and thought why not send Magnifisio.” MacAlister said campaigning Magnifisio in Melbourne should only enhance her career and future prospects. “We have discussed it again and she is for sale at the right price,” MacAlister said. “Having her race over there somebody might make us an offer and buy her off the track. If that doesn’t happen she is already there so going to a particular stallion won’t be a problem." He added: "There is a chance she might come back to Perth too. With the Winterbottom Stakes on November 26 she could be back for that race. At the moment she is still keen to race.” Magnifisio has won 14 of her 33 starts highlighted by her victory in the 2014 Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes.
