Cellarman Wins Listed Wintergarden Stakes
At Eagle Farm in Brisbane, Gr1-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed Vinery Stud stallion Mossman (Success Express-Lichen Lady, by Twig Moss) added a black-type success when 2YO colt Cellarman (Mossman-Vintage Blend, by Cape Cross) survived a protest to score by 0.2-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $100,000 Listed Wintergarden Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs, over 2YO filly Brulee (Hinchinbrook-Custard, by Lonhro) & 2YO gelding Endless Days (Dane Shadow-Endless Maize, by End Sweep). Cellarman - who was sold for $70,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale before being subsequently purchased for $90,000 by Star Thoroughbreds at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale - improved his record to 1 win and 2 placings from 4 starts for $78,650 earnings. From the unraced Cape Cross mare Vintage Blend, Cellarman hails from the immediate family of champion filly Triscay (Marscay), a winner of five Gr1 races including the Australian Oaks and Australian Guineas. Cellarman's victory was a timely one for Tasmania's Alva Stud which, through Damon Gabbedy's Belmont Bloodstock Agency, purchased his dam Vintage Blend for $46,000 at the recent Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Vintage Blend, who was in foal to Husson, is a half sister to stakes winner Vintner and Gr1-placed Perfect Drop.
