Ihtsahymn Wins Gr3 Strickland Stakes

Monday, 27th June 2016

At Belmont in Western Australia, former Oakland Park stallion Ihtiram (Royal Academy-Welsh Love, by Ela-Mana-Mou) added a Group success when 5YO gelding Ihtsahymn (Ihtiram-Umatune, by Umatilla) scored by 1-length for trainer Fred Kersley in the $150,000 Gr3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Dubai Escapade (Dubai Destination-Polyandry, by Storm Cat) & fellow 5YO gelding Zarantz (Choisir-Bonissimo, by Johannesburg). This was a welcome return to the winner's circle for Ihtsahymn who had not tasted success since the Listed Melvista Stakes in March 2014. Ihtsahymn improved his record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Kingston Town Classic, Gr2 CB Cox Stakes, Gr2 Western Australian Guineas & Listed Melvista Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr2 WATC Western Australian Derby & Listed JC Roberts Stakes) from 32 starts for $1,202,650 earnings. A homebred for Neville Duncan's Oakland Park Stud, Ihtsahymn is out of the stakes wining Umatilla mare Umatune and is a half-brother to Listed WATC Gimcrack Stakes victor Jestatune (Rory's Jester).
