Pike Sets WA Record

Monday, 27th June 2016

Star jockey William Pike broke the long-standing West Australian city record of Paul Harvey when he guided Socially Unique to victory in the Fast Track To Membership 2016/17 Handicap (1400m) at Belmont on Saturday, reports the West Australian. Pike moved to 117 wins for the season, eclipsing Harvey's mark of 116.5 set in 1999/2000, when Socially Unique scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Alana Williams, before extending his tally to 118 when the exciting State Solicitor cruised to an easy 3.25-length victory in the final race of the day. "It hasn't sunk in yet," Pike said. "Now I have set the record I am thinking, 'How the heck will I be able to do it again next year.'" He added: "I am happy I got to here. I set a goal of 100 city wins at the start of the season and to get that I was pretty happy."
