Monday, 27th June 2016

At Tauranga in New Zealand, The Oaks Stud's 5-time Gr1-winning & 5-time Gr1-placed stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill-Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) added a black-type success when 4YO New Zealand-bred mare Summer's Day (Darci Brahma-One Perfect Day, by Fusaichi Pegasus) scored by 2.5-lengths for trainer Tony Pike in the NZ$50,000 Listed Tauranga Classic (1400m) for fillies & mares, over fellow 4YO New Zealand-bred mare Aide Memoire (Remind-Explain, by Success Express) & 5YO New Zealand-bred mare Designated Driver (Danroad-Smashed All Night, by Night Shift). This was the first stakes victory for Summer's Day who improved her record to 6 wins and 7 placings from 17 starts for NZ$127,710 earnings. Summer's Day - who hails from the female family of Gr1 Railway Handicap winner Cannsea, Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winning sire Procol Harum, and promising young stayer and stakes winner Charlevoix - was a NZ$30,000 purchase by Tony Pike Bloodstock at the 2012 NZB National Weanling Sale from the draft of Blandford Lodge.
