Caulfield Cup Target For Alpine Eagle

Tuesday, 28th June 2016

The Caulfield Cup is the primary spring target for prodigiously talented galloper Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral-Zephyria, by Zabeel) who has returned to work following a short break, reports AAP. The 5YO entire was sent straight to the paddock after his only autumn start resulted in a disappointing 5th in the Gr3 RA Lee Stakes at Morphettville in May. "He's back in the stable," trainer Tony McEvoy said. "He just had a month to himself and he's done well and I'll just build him up now towards some staying races in the spring." He added: "He'll kick off in those traditional 1400 metre races I'd say and I'll just bring him through a traditional stayer's programme heading towards the Caulfield Cup." The Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes or the Gr1 Memsie Stakes are likely to be among Alpine Eagle's early season targets.
